An excellent video documentary/short film on Richard Butler the “artist” as opposed to Richard the “musician” that we all know and love.

In this short film Richard allows us into his studio at his home in Beacon, New York, and he discusses the cycle of how his paintings emerge from inception and the often iterative progression that ensues.

On a completely different note - nice choice of drinking vessel and also good to see a cute pussy on his armchair.

The Smith’s (of which Richard Butler is a fan) guitarist Johnny Marr had his debut solo LP released recently. Here’s a short interview with him and he name-checks The Furs and Television as being an early influence. Interview can be found here.

Richard Butler and Richard Fortus (Love Spit Love) covered The Smith’s track “How soon is now?” back in 1994.
