BT returns with a new LP entitled These Hopeful Machines (release date Feb 2nd 2010). The Lp features BT’s first ever cover version. This cover is The Psychedelic Furs track The Ghost in You from their 1984 LP Mirror Moves.

RADIOHEAD INTERVIEW
An interesting interview with Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood cropped up in the Guardian, with The Furs - amongst others - getting a mention when it comes to influences. Here’s an extract:
Were you tearing down Radiohead mark one and building Radiohead mark two?
The transition from guitars to working with computers was a bit like staring at a laptop with a sweat on. Also, there’s five people in the group inspired by different things. Thom was – and still is – inspired by things like Autechre and Boards of Canada. And there were things that people liked, and didn’t like, about that music. We were trying to escape that thing you have at school where one of you will think Pretty in Pink by the Psychedelic Furs is great and someone who’s got all the old stuff thinks you’re uncool ’cause it’s the first time you’ve heard them. In a band with your mates, you can’t try to out-cool each other.

Confirmation that the Furs regretfully have had to cancel their European shows. Selected dates may be re-arranged in the future. Meanwhile the Sinner’s Day Festival website have confirmed that UK Outfit Gang of 4 will replace the Furs for the Belguim date.

Love My Way was the set opener for this gig, and you might just be able to recognise the intro music as that of UK 80’s new romantic band Visage’s Fade to Grey.

Crikey me. Howard Thompson (CBS A&R) - one of the main players responsible for signing The Furs way back in 1979 - has posted Richard (Rep) Butler’s original hand written lyrics of Radio - part of the song “Blacks/Radio” from the Furs UK debut LP. Check this great piece of Fur Archive out here. Howard also describes how he came to sign the fledgling Furs and also his involvement with recording The Furs UK debut Single We Love You here
Euro Dates Cancelled
With great disappointment I’m afraid to report that The Furs two remaining European dates in Oslo, Norway and Hassalt, Belgium have been cancelled.We’ll just have to wait and see if there is to be re-arranged European dates in the future.
Meanwhile their USA tour with Happy Monday’s is in full swing. Check out the remaining dates here

I’m disappointed to report that The Furs three UK Dates are to be re-scheduled. I have no new dates at moment of writing, but can confirm the dates below have indeed been cancelled. The other Euro dates in Sinner’s Day Festival Sunday Nov1st Hassalt, Belguim & Nov 10th / OSLO, NORWAY / Rockefeller are still going ahead “at this point in time”. Any updates on this front will be posted here ASAP. People with tickets already purchased will be able to get full refunds at point of sale

“I can’t remember having this much fun on tour in a long time,” Butler offers, speaking from a stop in Seattle. “I haven’t been able to catch the Mondays as often as I would like, but the crowds have been super.”
